🎨 What happens when an artist decides to stop idealising the world and instead shows life as it truly is? A new vision of art is born.

🖼️ “Gustave Courbet. Realist and Rebel” at the Leopold Museum is Austria’s first major solo exhibition dedicated to Courbet. The exhibition brings together around 130 works, including paintings, graphic works and archival materials, offering a complete overview of the artist’s career and his revolutionary approach to art.

🖌️ Gustave Courbet (1819–1877) was one of the most important pioneers of Realism — an artist who challenged the conventions of his time and changed the way people understood painting. While the academic art world celebrated idealised historical and mythological scenes, Courbet chose reality: ordinary people, everyday moments, powerful landscapes and honest human emotions.

👥 Courbet was more than a painter — he was a rebel, a provocateur and a defender of artistic freedom. He believed that art should not simply follow traditions, but should reflect the world around us. His portraits, landscapes, still lifes and socially engaged works challenged audiences and opened new possibilities for modern painting.

🏛️ Step out of the bustling streets of London and into the quiet, dramatic shadows of 17th-century Seville.

✨ The National Gallery has unveiled the UK’s first major retrospective dedicated to Spanish master Francisco de Zurbarán — and it is already taking the art world by storm. The exhibition has received unanimous 5-star reviews from The Guardian, The Times, and The Standard, while The Sunday Times described it as “one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen.”

🎨 Francisco de Zurbarán (1598–1664) was one of the great masters of Baroque Seville, alongside Velázquez and Murillo. His works are celebrated for their vivid naturalism and profound emotional intensity. Through his masterful use of light and shadow (chiaroscuro), Zurbarán creates a spellbinding atmosphere that feels almost tangible. He reveals extraordinary beauty in ordinary objects — from the rind of a lemon to the delicate folds of fabric or the timeless gaze of a saint.
