Opening on this Thursday 15th October from 6pm!

Twilight Contemporary is thrilled to present ‘Damp,’ the debut solo exhibition of London-based artist Thomas Mead. Tom Mead, (b.1997) is a figurative artist, living on the London/Essex border. Mead’s work is an ongoing exploration of existentialism and saudade through the lens of working class adulthood. The process Mead has developed harkens back to a childhood obsession with miniatures, stop motion and cardboard construction. Crude sets are created, with printed cut outs of figures and objects that can be manipulated in surreal ways. These scenes are then painted to create uncanny artwork that blurs the distinction between scale, flatness, realism and space.

‘Gossamer’, a duo presentation by London based artists Ṣọlá Olúlòde and Cecilia Reeve continues until 31 October. Inspired by temporal moments, together these artists offer us intimate snapshots into serene, dreamlike worlds.

Cecilia Reeve works in a hushed register, where figures have a stillness and a sense of contemplation. Reeve’s work draws on the traditions of magical realism, where we, the viewer, are drawn slowly into dreamlike scenes. The fabric delicately and majestically floating in the wind provides a sense of movement that contrasts the calmness of her figures. As with Olúlòde’s work, a sense of tension is palpable, though her work emits a feeling of longing or nervous desire.

Our presentation at Swab Barcelona (Booth MF1) Plaça de Carles Buïgas, Barcelona continues until 9pm Sunday 11th October.

‘Naked Island’ is the name given to the world William Reinsch has been building over many years, drawn from his internal psyche. A world that offers glimpses and fragments into a place normally kept hidden. Reinsch began painting in this autobiographical mode after a tough period in his young life. Drawing and painting became a vehicle to communicate experiences he could not easily put into words, with early works given to his therapist as a means of understanding what he was experiencing. This approach has never left his practice, with each piece becoming a new act of exposure.

Opening on Thursday 15th October Twilight Contemporary is thrilled to present ‘Damp,’ the debut solo exhibition of London-based artist Thomas Mead. Inspired by the act of looking back and a childhood obsession with miniatures, Mead examines the existential weight of what is missing by turning a feeling of emptiness into a palpable reality.

Twilight Contemporary is at Swab Barcelona (Booth MF1) with a duo presentation by William Reinsch and Kitty McKay.

McKay’s reimagined and manipulated urban re-constructions draw attention to the exclusionary structures embedded within public space. While Reinsch’s imagined rural landscapes form part of a wider world building exercise, allowing him to process and communicate experiences not easily put into words. Butted together, these urban and rural reimaginings stage a sinister cognitive dissonance between these two modes of world building. They ask the audience to re-evaluate normative perspectives on disability and mental health.

Join us tonight from 6pm for the opening of ‘Gossamer’, a duo presentation by London based artists Ṣọlá Olúlòde and Cecilia Reeve. Inspired by temporal moments, together these artists offer us intimate snapshots into serene, dreamlike worlds.

‘Gossamer,’ the exhibition’s namesake, is defined in the Cambridge dictionary as the very thin thread that spiders produce to make webs.  Threads, taken in isolation are thin, but together strong. The weaving together of lives is what this exhibition epitomises, where the touch of a hand embodies a sense of togetherness.

SWAB Barcelona opens this week (8-11th October). We will be presenting five new works by William Reinsch alongside work by Kitty McKay.

McKay, a Glasgow-based artist and researcher, is eternally preoccupied with the ways in which public space is made and unmade. Working across installation, moving image, sculpture, sound, collage, and writing, their approach to practice is informed by feminist, q***r, and crip frameworks for understanding, and overcoming, the ways power constructs place. Their installations seek to evoke the errant, dissonant, and unauthorised socialities and practices that happen in urban space through the dislocation of materials that comprise and enforce spatial hegemony.

Opening this Tuesday! Ṣọlá Olúlòde and Cecilia Reeve with Gossamer.

Ṣọlá Olúlòde is a British Nigerian artist living and working in South London. She received a BA in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton in 2018. Upon graduation she took part in the notable graduate show BBZ BLK BK: Alternative Graduate Show. 2018. She then went on to receive a graduate studio residency at Lewisham Art House for a year in London. Since then she has exhibited in numerous international group solo exhibitions.
