a fabulous opportunity, City as Stage, from my friends at the Arts Festival in Goa, a terrific online course and residential collaboration to apply for this year.

City as Stage asks the question - how can the performing arts be taken out of auditoriums and amphitheatres in art districts, to engage with public spaces in the city?

Performing arts has the potential to foster community pride and community-up civic regeneration to create inclusive welcoming spaces against the tide of some forbidding developers architecture. Jonathan Raban calls the “soft city” of aspiration, failure, delirium. Where arts and developers enrich understanding of the multi-ethnic and multilingual fabric of Indian cities.

At the heart of the City as Stage course is a collaboration between , course director from India, and artistic director of in the UK.

are inviting applications from India and the South Asian diaspora in the UK.

Eight successful applicants will be selected for the course which will take place over July and August online. After this period, the applicants will be paired to develop projects that will be presented as works-in-progress at the in Goa this December. Exceptional projects may have the opportunity to be showcased at Serendipity Arts festival in Birmingham in May 2025.

The project, supported by British Council, is aimed for

Indian applicants:

The applicant should be an Indian national residing in India
The applicant must be above 21 years of age
The applicant must have some demonstrable interest in arts research and/or practice, preferably in the performing arts

UK applicants:

The applicant must be a member of the South Asian diaspora
The applicant should be residing in the UK
The applicant must be above 21 years of age
The applicant must have some demonstrable interest in arts research and/or practice, preferably in the performing arts
The applicant must have a valid passport.

Serendipity Arts Festival is back this year from December 15 to 22, 2024 in Panjim, Goa. As a step towards representing emerging artists and building a platform for new music, we invite bands, soloists, duos, groups etc. working across all genres to apply.
