以一卷卷麻繩作經線， 日 花 把從津南町收集的山野草交織起來，加上象徵循環的鈴鐺，TOBY CRISPY 以回收舊布造的津南野花正悄悄綻放，無聲地呼喚你在這幅再生布中玩玩捉迷藏。

Using bobbins of h**p string as warp, 日 花 interwove the wild plants collected from Tsunan. Adorned with bells symbolizing the circle of life, TOBY CRISPY ‘s Tsunan wild flowers made from the collected old cloth are quietly blooming and silently calling you to play hide-and-seek within this tapestry of reborn.

參與式藝術創作從來不止於成品和技術，而是過程中人與人之間的連繫與溫度，往往是喜出望外，遠超出成品本身的份量，也是最動人的地方。

Participatory art goes beyond finished pieces and techniques. The true beauty lies in the warmth of human connection created during the process, unpredictable, heavier than the art itself, and deeply moving.

【茶餐廳侍仔恤衫】

茶餐廳可視為日本洋食屋、大眾食堂與喫茶店的混合體，但更快、更混搭、更草根；不僅是用餐場所，更是社區交流的公共空間，是香港日常生活的重要符號。
而這件白色侍應恤衫可追溯至二十世紀四、五十年代的戰後時期，當時社會急速城市化，加上殖民地影響下的西式餐飲文化興起，茶餐廳便成為中西合璧美食的平民化變奏。短袖設計回應香港炎熱潮濕的氣候，寬鬆外放，流露草根精神、靈活變通與本土味道。除了商標外，幾乎每家茶餐廳的侍應制服至今都大同小異，比任何服飾更能代表香港人的生活文化。

Chaa chaan teng can be seen as a blend of Japan’s yōshoku ya (Western style diners), everyday canteens, and kissaten cafés — but faster, more eclectic, and more grassroots.
It is not only a place to eat, but also a public space for neighbourhood interaction, and an important symbol of daily life in Hong Kong.
The classic white waiter’s shirt dates back to the post war 1940s and 1950s, when rapid urbanisation and colonial influence brought Western dining culture into the city. Chaa chaan tengs emerged as an affordable, hybridised version of Chinese and Western food
culture. The short sleeved shirt suited Hong Kong’s hot, humid climate; worn loose and untucked, it embodied grassroots practicality, adaptability, and a distinctly local spirit. Apart from the logos, the uniforms across chat chaan tengs have remained almost identical for decades. More than any other fashion style, this simple shirt reflects the everyday culture and character of Hong Kong people.

#艹田人 與其說始於2023 年得知項目獲選，或許該是從我和Mire Yu 日 花 識於輕狂時已展開，尤其是由她從留日10年回香港後，不時和我分享她對日本文化的研習，和對植物獨到的傳譯開始，慢針黹牧民 TobyCrispy + Nomads 的概念也是從我們的閒聊中成形，不能不謝謝你特別為我走出深山。

兩年多不間斷的準備，上年駐留21天，做了10場工作坊，天天在路上一起讚嘆山野草的自在柔韌和村民的人情味，到今年終於可以拾起收回來的刺繡故事和風乾的山野草，著手創作，最後回到津南留了17天組合和安裝，感激沿途參加者、團隊和實習同學的協力，特別是 香港部屋 | Hong Kong House | 香港ハウス 這超現實空間，讓我們一早一夜都能從閣樓房舍俯瞰展場，一路檢視調整，最後望著村口Obaba婆婆站在巴士站前揮手告別的身影，作結這場暖暖的夢。接下來會陸續分享展覽細節，請耐心等候。

This journey didn’t just start with our 2023 project selection, it began when Mire Yu 日 花 and I met in our youth. After 10 years in Japan, her return to Hong Kong and her unique insights on Japanese culture and plants inspired me a lot. Our casual chats even shaped TobyCrispy + Nomads. Thank you for stepping out of the deep mountains for me.

After 2 years of prep, a 21-day residency last year, and 10 workshops, we praised the villagers’ warmth and the wild plants in every walk. This year, we finally crafted the installation in Tsunan over 17 days using the collected slow-stitched stories and dried plants. Deeply grateful to the participants, team, and interns, especially 香港部屋 | Hong Kong House | 香港ハウス for this surreal space where we could refine the exhibit from the attic everyday when we opened and closed our eyes. Watching Grandma (Obaba) wave goodbye at the bus stop closed this beautiful dream. Stay turned for more exhibition details coming soon!

在你們的富士山下你們享受耕種，我們在獅子山下卻把木棉花當毽踢；在你們的冬天積雪數米時，我們卻穿著背心裙去慶祝聖誕節；當你們很驕傲地分享種米點滴時，我們這邊的石屎森林裡也有農夫的分享；西澤喜美婆婆為道路上植物的貢獻也令我想起香港藍屋的區太⋯⋯就讓一件象徵香港人生活文化的侍仔恤衫靜靜回應。

Starting tomorrow, one story a day, now it’s Hong Kong’s turn!
Speaking of hometown, what comes to mind? It’s not GDP or achievements. The 35 stories from Echigo-Tsumari sum up people’s reflections on home — climate, farming, food, customs, community connections… In the Slow Stitch workshop, I’m often asked: “How about Hong Kong?”

Under your Mount Fuji you enjoy farming, while under our Lion Rock we kicked cotton tree flowers like shuttlecocks; when your winter snow piles up meters high, we’re wearing vests and dresses to celebrate Christmas; as you proudly share the stories of rice planting, in our concrete forest farmers also share their tips; Nishizawa Kimi’s contribution to roadside plants reminds me of Mrs. Au of Hong Kong’s Blue House… So let a “chaa chaan teng” shirt — a symbol of Hong Kong’s living culture — quietly respond.

[Hong Kong House 2026 Special Exhibition)
“艹 田 人 STITCH OUR INNER LAND”

“艹” is the radical for grass and plants, “田” represents land, and “人” signifies people. Together, their forms resemble stitches — a metaphor for inviting everyone to reconnect humans and nature through the practice of slow-stitching.

The bustling rhythm of Hong Kong and the serene cadence of Tsunan, separated by thousands of miles, differ in climate, land and way of life. Placing “people” at the core, the artists travelled between the two places, gathering forty-nine stories about land, memories and daily life. They wove together urban and rural voices from the past and present, and cross-regional collective memories that transcend geography. Additionally, they transformed often-overlooked scents of nature, such as wild grasses and foraged plants, into an artistic installation, inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue with nature.

Please come and join the artwork!
Visitors are invited to take a strip of washi thread and stitch the word “^” onto the mesh installed in the exhibition, allowing your mark to join the collective creation!
