Tencent is ditching free-to-play shooter Synced after one year

Tencent is scrapping its free-to-play multiplayer shooter Synced a year after it launched (thanks MassivelyOP).

The PvE and PvP title debuted on September 8, 2023, but will be shuttered on September 9, 2024. Developer Next Studios, which is owned by Chinese conglomerate Tencent, broke the news on Steam but didn't explain why the project is being torched.

"Thanks so much for playing Synced and being a valued member of its community, but we regret to inform you that the game will be retired this September," reads the update. "You will still be able to enjoy the game and use any existing in-game items until the Termination Date."

Synced is published by Level Infinite, also owned by Tencent. Game Developer has reached out to the company to learn more about the delisting.

Embracer secures €600 million revolving credit facility after brutal restructure

Embracer has secured a new €600 million revolving credit facility with a two-year tenor.

The Swedish conglomerate has an option to extend its new credit line for an additional year and claims it will help reduce interest expenses through "improved terms and a reduced financial leverage."

The new facility will replace Embracer's remaining SEK 4.8 billion (€420 million) revolving credit facility, which matures in May 2025.

"Thanks to the significant measures taken throughout the current calendar year, we have strengthened our financial structure and responsibly reduced our financial leverage," said Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors. "This step is part of our transition to becoming a leaner and more focused company."

Steam simplifies social media linking after aggressive API updates
Valve has announced that it's making it easier for developers on Steam to link to social media accounts on game pages. In a short blog post, the company notified developers that it has "removed the cumbersome authentication loop" for adding links to social media pages.

Developers can now drop a link to their various profiles in a set of simple text fields. The tool still only supports specific platforms like Discord, YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and X (formerly Twitter). Growing platforms like TikTok, BeReal, Mastodon, Threads, BlueSky, and Cohost do not have any official presence.
