STEPHANIE CASSIA
Stephanie completed the foundation course in art of l École Supérieure des Art Graphique (Penninghen) in Paris from 1990-1992 and received her BA in Art History (Magma Cum Laude) from the American University of Paris in 1996. Her parallel interests in the applied arts led her to receive a Diploma with Distinction in Interior Design from the Inchbald School of Design in London in
1997. During her studies in Paris, Stephanie worked in various art galleries, assisting with the organization and planning of young contemporary artists. Her interests in theoretical and applied arts led her to focus equally on the development of her own explorations which culminated in exhibitions in Beirut, including commissions for private and corporate clients. Stephanie joined the The Cassia Group Beirut interior design studio in 2005 and has since participated on a wide range of interior design project typologies ranging from residential, commercial, hospitality and retail. Her artistic pursuits have been continuous throughout her work as an interior designer but in the last years she has shifted to focus primarily on painting. Her works generally focus on one subject in order to obliterate the superficial, and therefore her work often include figures placed before simple, yet textured, geometric background. Layers are added and peeled off, drippings and textures enliven the simplicity of the compositions. An interest in centering a feeling, a movement, of embracing a moment and of enjoying the silence are all common themes relating to a search of authenticity and intent often so rare in our present day society and social media rat race.
