Santa Claus is comin' to town 🎅
Families in Newcastle are being invited to step inside a 17th-century merchant's house for a 45-minute immersive Christmas theatre experience.
A historic Pilgrim Street property that rarely opens to the public is being completely transformed into a Victorian-style home for Santa Claus.
Families will once again be able to visit Santa inside Alderman Fenwick’s House following a completely sold-out run last year.
Organisers at Niltoni Entertainment say they want to move far away from the traditional queue-shuffle-photo grotto.
Instead, they are creating a seated, story-led piece of theatre designed for children aged between two and ten.
Young ones will climb the grand staircase up to the Great Room to take on a role as an honorary elf.
They will spend 45 minutes writing letters to Santa, placing them in his postbox, and sitting down for a Christmas storytime.
Director Filipe Neves Ribeiro says the historic setting is crucial to making the experience feel authentic.
He said: "We didn't want to build another grotto: we wanted to create a piece of theatre where a child genuinely believes, for three-quarters of an hour, that they've been invited into Santa's own house."
The Pilgrim Street property dates back to the 17th century and actually once hosted Charles Dickens.
Every child will receive a beautifully-crafted gift featuring two new illustrated books published exclusively for the event.
The experience opens on November 28 and will run on Saturdays and Sundays until December 20.
Tickets are on sale now, costing £19.50 for adults and £15.50 for children.
