Karen Topp Welcome! I hope you find something you love here. In my work I strive to capture fleeting moments of beauty in everyday life.

Thinking of the next collection / body of work. Cue nasturtium leaves ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

Surely one of the most beautiful natural shapes to have graced the earth. In any case, they have been taking over the studio, the printmaking room AND the living room for the past few weeks, alongside other lines of investigations for my next collection of paintings.

Early thoughts, concepts and maquettes, for now... Stay tuned ๐Ÿ“ก

You asked, I delivered ๐Ÿ˜Š. Here is Beached, styled in a room.

Flick through the carousel to zoom out and see the context of the room.

For this one I chose a shelf in a little nook between sofa and wall. It was great fun to look through a collection of objects, books and photos to do this.

Also featured in this post on pics 4-6 are bits of two other, much larger paintings: Diversion II (Kentish Town) on the right, and The Geese of Ally Pally on the left.

Unexpected pairings! Here's what happens when you don't overthink styling...

Because I keep making, showing, and moving artworks around, our living room is an ever-changing gallery of stuff hung temporarily (sometimes not even straight!).

This time, the small painting on the bottom right was precariously stood on top of the a/c unit and just fell(!) while the machine was whirring away in the last heatwave ๐Ÿ˜ฌ So I just quickly picked it up and propped it on top of the vinyl player against the wall, 'for now'.

It's only when I looked at that wall later that I realised I really liked the combo of two completely unrelated works. One recent and inspired by the sea, the other older and an ode to Highgate tube station. Everything else in this set-up was already there. All I did for this photograph is dust the surfaces and swap the vinyls at the front of the box.

The lesson from this is not to overthink styling: get stuff you like without worrying whether it will 'go'. Then move it around in the house without making too many assumptions. Et voilร !

Both paintings featured in this post are available (DM / follow link in bio if interested):

I need to make space in the studio, and some pieces need a loving home. So it's time for a Summer clear-up, a chance to win art and an opportunity to support people in need๐Ÿ’š

First drop will be next Friday, 12 June. Flick through the carousel to find out what work will be available, how to buy (from ยฃ5!) while supporting a good cause if you can, and how to win some art.

The winner of last week's little poll, and next on my list to style in a real room ๐Ÿ“‹

This small painting is part of the Receding Tide collection, and I've only ever styled it in virtual rooms so far. I'll be having a go at showing it off in a genuine interior as soon as I catch a break from painting and the weather gives me good lighting ๐Ÿ’ก Stay tuned!

Thanks to everyone who voted ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿชธ๐ŸŒŠ

Shallows has officially found its home, and I am so grateful. A huge thank you to its collector, who fell in love with it at On The 134, my first show with ๐Ÿฅ‚

While this specific piece is gone, the evolution didnโ€™t stop there. Iโ€™ve been translating these same ideas onto canvas, through soft pastel hues and delicate textures.

Let me know in the comments which of the ones Iโ€™m showing here is your favourite! โœ๏ธ
