In hindsight, attempting to produce, perform and document an entire weekend at Alexandra Palace Theare may have been the most ambitious and/or stupid thing I have ever done...

Yet do it I did...but do it I did not do alone 🧐

I owe many thanks to many people for making last weekend such a huge success:

The staff of for going above and beyond to make our show work in such a magical space. You have set the standard for UK venues WAY too high!

.arts and .oakmund for loaning me your stunning artwork to decorate the theatre foyer and the hall of the palace. I now want to own all of it, so you may never get it back...

for travelling all the way down to have me on your wonderful podcast again, even for the few minutes we had. It meant so much to see your faces!

for flying from Canada to support and promote us. You are such a delight to be around and proved that you are just as talented in the ring as on camera - I can't wait to work together again soon, under less chaotic circumstances 🔨🔨

@chloenelkinconsulting and for getting me in the room and helping me fill it with people. It wouldn't have been as much fun without anyone there to witness it!

My Guildsister for flying from Portland to be with me on such an important weekend. Having you there was the highlight of a weekend of highlights 🖤

for your gigantic effort and skill in composing, debuting and performing a soundtrack that somehow outdid my curated list of the Best Songs Ever. We needed a composer and got a friend for life 🥰

My parents for being the greatest hosts on Earth and for working so hard to make us all look utterly epic, and taking such good care of me on one of the biggest weekends of my life. I think this was our greatest accomplishment yet ❤️

and for blending into the chaos to capture everything in front of and behind the scenes of one of the hardest working shows in the world. I'm wish we had more time together!

I am still recovering almost a week later, but I take that as a good sign 🤘🏻

Sometimes I forget that I created these characters...

I built their world, chose their lineage and put the words into their mouths. I decided who we encounter and when, which parts of their lives we witness, and how they meet their fate. I wrote their histories, personalities, jokes, loyalties and weaknesses, and I decided how they interact.

I based it all on ancient mythology, but the way in which I wove the myths together was my own and (despite the fact that I rarely get credited or paid for having written the show) it is my proudest achievement.

Then designed eveything. Everything. Every colour, every material and every stitch was deliberately chosen to blend form and function. The family palettes, the unified clan knotwork, the hand-dyed fabrics and hand-carved leather, the unnoticeable details and the way each person appears from every angle and distance - it was all planned and executed and entirely altered every time the casting changed.

The music to which each character enters our story and the music to which they fall; every moment, every emotion, every detail has been lovingly considered and reconsidered over and over again, across thousands of hours over four years.

Yet that was all in theory. In ex*****on, these characters have been brought to life by my groundbreaking and awe-inspiring cast, who have merged their craft of wrestling with the daunting task of treading the boards as theatrical actors.

There are ten of us in this photo, yet each one of us owes so much to those who played the characters before us, paving the way for the work we have the honour of doing every night. No one person has created the way any of us do anything; everything we do is the result of the work of almost 40 other people - that is how we have created magic.

Of course, all that magic would look like a bunch of people rolling around on the floor without the efforts of whose lights and atmospheres take our humble stage and set, and turn into into a world of myths and mayhem, comedy and tragedy.

I love our official press reviews, but if I'm being honest, the feedback that means the most to me is the conversations I have after every show.

The fact that so many people are willing to wait an hour in the drizzle just to say hello and thanks makes every long day and hard knock worthwhile.

This week I gave my 200th performance of Mythos: Ragnarök. I am so happy and grateful that it was at Edinburgh Fringe.

Lots of people tell me I’m insane for going back to Fringe. They say it’s extortionate, it’s dying and it’s elitist. They tell me it’s only viable for established acts and solo shows by middle class comedians with deep pockets, who are willing to sleep on sofas and endure the the ‘gruelling task’ of having to promote and perform their own show every day.

They tell me it is definitely NOT the place for a company of twelve people with no funding, no producers and no promoters, run single-handedly by an upstart wrestler who needs to sell tens of thousands of pounds of tickets every week just to cover his costs.

These people have not met a Guildsman...

I am here BECAUSE it is risky. I am here BECAUSE it is almost impossible to succeed. I am here BECAUSE it is so much hard work for so little reward that most people would never even dare to try.

I am here to turn obstacles into opportunities and, thanks to the most hard-working group of people at the fringe, our show has already been seen by more people in the first week than in the entire festival in 2022.

There was a time when humans would follow our leaders even if it meant certain death. These days, most of us wouldn't p**s on a politician if they were on fire.

Today we lost a man who did so much "wrong" in the eyes of cultured society, religion and the law, yet was more influential, more respected and more inspiring than any of our apparent leaders. What does that tell you?

Goodbye, Ozzy: in a world of fakes, you were one of our last true kings. Every time I am confronted with a person of "authority", I will think of you and tell them to f**k off 🖤

DEADPOOL OR MYTHOS?

One year ago, I was given a simple choice: Deadpool or Mythos?

Simple, but not easy.

On the one hand, I worked hard for that Deadpool offer. I had done two intense auditions alongside almost every stunt perfomer in the UK and had the huge honour of being one of just a handful selected.

I was also broke. I was paying for everything in Mythos myself, including cast wages that were twice the average amount for wrestlers in the UK. I had nothing and each week on Deadpool would pay me more than I'd earned in a year.

On the other hand was Mythos at Edinburgh Fringe: 30 days of intense work and physical suffering for which I would be paid nothing, but would generate income for my cast and potential future opportunities for the show.

Which to choose?

Here's the thing. Sacrifice isn't giving up one thing for another: that's just a trade. Sacrifice involves willingly losing something you deeply value in honour of something else, in the full knowledge that you may get nothing in return.

It is meant to hurt.

And it did hurt. It still does. Every time I see an advert for Deadpool, I am reminded of what I gave up to be here, exhausted and penniless a year later.

I chose Mythos. Why? Because my life isn't just about me: it's about the people who work for and trust me, the people we entertain and inspire, the improvements my show makes to our industry, and the stories I was born to tell.

I chose Mythos. As a result, the show returns to Edinburgh Fringe next week in one of the biggest venues of the whole festival. When I step onstage to tell the Tradegy of Loki, I will draw on every sacrifice and moment of suffering I have endured over the last three years to keep this production alive.

I chose Mythos. In fact, there was never even a choice: I don't live for me, I live for the Guild.

For almost three years, I have given every ounce of my love and energy to .theatre and taken nothing in return, other than the knowledge that I am making history.

Along the way I've lost so much weight through stress and injury that people keep asking if I'm sick.

So I'm taking a break.

I'm going to work on myself and my show, and come back stronger.
