We are incredibly proud to share some wonderful news…

Our Chair of Trustees, Shekeila Scarlett, has been awarded an MBE in His Majesty The King’s 2026 Birthday Honours for services to education.

Shekeila’s journey with Immediate Theatre is nothing short of extraordinary. She first came to us as a young person in Hackney, navigating one of the most challenging moments of her young life. Through creativity, resilience and determination, she found her voice, and over the years, has grown with us from participant to Youth Board leader, to Trustee… and now Chair.

Shekeila is a powerful example of what happens when young people are given the opportunity to thrive. Her leadership lived experience and commitment to equity continue to shape our work and inspire everyone around her.

Alongside her role with Immediate Theatre, Shekeila has been a driving force in amplifying young people’s voices across Hackney, including as Chair of the Young Futures Commission. She is relentless in her belief that systems must better reflect and serve the communities they represent, and she continues to turn that belief into meaningful change.

Premiere Night at the Movies - thanks

From the gripping storyline to the talented cast, it was inspiring to see a project that puts young voices, creativity, and real-life themes like generational trauma and hidden struggles at the centre💙

Opportunities like this are what we’re all about! Exposing our young people to creativity, storytelling, and experiences that spark conversation and reflection.

Immediate Theatre’s FREE summer project, Breakout, is back from 20th–24th July 2026, 10:30am–4:30pm in Homerton.

A week of fun, creativity, and confidence-building for children from all backgrounds.

This year’s theme, ‘A Sense of Belonging’ helps children explore identity, community, and connection through theatre, music, and creative activities, ending with the opportunity to performance for family and friends.

What your young person will gain:
Confidence and self-expression
Teamwork and communication skills
New friendships and positive experiences
Support in achieving recognised AQA accreditation

What an amazing weekend out on Hackney Downs

Our Theatre Exchange group took to the park with , for a history walk, exploring the history of Hackney downs, as part of .

We’re so proud that this event helped raise £650 for our Winter 2026 tour, bringing entertainment by and for people over 60 to lunch clubs, sheltered accommodation and beyond.

Well done to our Theatre Exchange group for their performances on the day, helping to bring the History of Hackney Downs to life for our guests.

We’re out with our Theatre Exchange group today, for their history walk of Hackney Downs...

We’re exploring the rich history of this much-loved park, from its peaceful, bucolic beginnings to moments of uprising, education and celebration, all the way to the meadows and mosaics we see now… and yes, there are a few theatrical surprises along the way!

This event is part of the and aims to raise money for our Winter 2026 tour, bringing entertainment by and for people over 60 to lunch clubs, sheltered accommodations and more!
