A Sherman Firefly belonging to the 7th Armoured Division in Hamburg, 4 May 1945. This was the day that at Lüneburg Heath, (near Hamburg) Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery accepted the unconditional surrender of the German forces in the Netherlands, north west Germany and Denmark. The surrender preceded the end of World War II in Europe.

A reminder 😃 Over this weekend Armour and Embarkation 2026 takes place in Dorset (UK)
The event pays tribute to the major part Dorset played in the build up to D-Day. Men who landed on Omaha Beach left from Weymouth and Portland and some 80,000 US troops were billeted in the county as they trained for the D-Day landings.
