The first in a new 3 evening class where we make objects to serve or display food. Think wine glasses, baguette holders, tureens, fancy plates and platters, and whatever else your imagination can conjour. One day is spent making, one evening we glaze the pieces and on the final evening, before collecting the glazed pieces we will feast from them together. We will all bring food and wine to share and we will have a lovely time enjoying each others creations and company. This feast will be a joint feast with people from the ceramic puppet workshop who will be collecting their puppets so if you're lucky you might be entertained with a show too! You can buy discounted joint tickets to both classes below!

The dates are two wednesday evenings and one Saturday evening for feasting

Wednesday 12 October 6-9 making

(then a week's break for drying and firing )

Wednesday 26th October 6-9 glazing

Saturday 29th October 6-9pm Feasting and fun. Take your pieces home at the end of the evening.

Birdsmouth Studio has a new ceramics puppet making workshop up

This workshop series will follow the making process of a ceramic faced hand puppet in a little smock frock - from design sketching to completion. Over the three weeks we will use hand-building & simple ceramic glazing techniques to make our puppets. Over three consecutive weeks we will host afternoons of making with final afternoon/evening feast...

The workshops will be held on Sunday 16th, Sunday 23rd (from 1pm - 5pm) and Saturday 29th of October from 5pm onwards....

Week 1 - Introduction, Designing & Building

Week 2 - Glazing & Decoration

Week 3 - Assembly & Feast of Dollies

We will first look at making designing and building faces & hands from clay, which will then be fired in the kiln in preparation for the next week. Tools & clay will be provided. The second stage will be to glaze and decorate the puppets. Help will be available to advise and select suitable glazes and decoration for the ceramics parts. Some materials will also be provided to make clothing, skins, scales, wigs & props for the puppets, but of course if you have a specific material in mind please bring along.

In the final week, following the glaze firing we will assemble the components and finesse the final forms.

And we invite you to bring a dish to share at the Feast of Dollies on the final afternoon/evening.

£95 for all three workshops, materials and tools will be provided.

By popular demand Flora and Rose are running their legendary 2 day ceramics class again on the 1st and 15th of February, 12-4. In a warm and welcoming environment, we will show you all the main handbuilding techniques and guide you through the creation of a range of personal pieces to take home. The second day is focussed on glazing and decorating. £130 for two Saturdays. Please get in touch to book a place and discuss any requirements you might have. Dogs welcome.
