HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎉 to our founder and boss man Steve Raine (he will probably hate this post but we hope he has a great day!)

Steve Raine is one of the true pioneers of UK house music and the visionary founder of Hard Times Records and Hard Times club nights.

From humble beginnings in Yorkshire, Steve helped build one of the most respected brands in global dance music, introducing generations of clubbers to the sounds of authentic house music and bringing legendary DJs such as Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Todd Terry and Masters At Work to UK audiences in the early 90’s

For over three decades, his passion, dedication and belief in the culture have helped shape the UK club scene, inspiring countless promoters, DJs and music lovers along the way.

A true champion of house music whose influence continues to be felt on dancefloors around the world.

We have to go all the way back to the beginning… when a few friends, armed with nothing more than a small bank loan and a big dream, set off on an incredible journey.

With no experience, and a club tucked away in a small town, it was a miracle we survived the first month. So when we reached our first birthday on the 6th August 1994, we celebrated in style…

That night, Masters At Work made their first appearance at Hard Times - bringing with them 6 decks, 2 mixers, and delivering a set that, even today, remains unrivalled.

No computers. No USB sticks. Just pure mixing skill and an ear for music beyond natural. Working together in their own unique way, they created something truly unforgettable.

Throughout our history there have been a few very rare, can’t-miss special events. Our first birthday was one of them… and when Masters At Work return to play The Box at it will be another.

We were lucky enough to record that legendary first birthday set, and as a taste of what to expect on Sat May 23rd at the Ministry of Sound, we proudly present…
