Meet Monika Sosnowska, a Polish artist whose sculptural practice explores architecture and urban transformation. Drawing on her own observations of the built environment in Poland, Sosnowska transforms industrial forms and materials into striking sculptural works.

Sosnowska’s solo exhibition, Weight of Matter, opens at the South London Gallery on 10 September. The exhibition brings together monumental sculptures made from steel, concrete and other materials associated with modernist architecture.

EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

This autumn, the SLG presents Weight of Matter, a major exhibition by Polish artist Monika Sosnowska.

Sosnowska is renowned for her monumental sculptures that transform familiar architectural elements into gravity-defying forms. Working with steel, concrete and other industrial materials, she twists, bends and compresses structures to explore the physical and psychological impact of architecture.

Spanning the Main Gallery and two floors of the Fire Station, Weight of Matter will feature large-scale site-specific installations alongside rarely seen paper maquettes, offering an insight into the artist's process. Responding directly to the SLG's architecture, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the built environment in entirely new ways.

Alongside Ranti Bam’s exhibition Sacred Groves, SERAFINE1369 is hosting the workshop ‘Somatic Tuning’.

In their current research and practice, SERAFINE1369 works with the ways that we too are material, shaped by our environment - not necessarily in a psychological way, but by way of relational response.

We invite you to join us at the Clore Studio for sensorial practices of listening, moving, and sounding. There will be a focus on slowness and weight. Participants are welcome to engage at their own pace and according to their own comfort levels.
