The white page can feel so intimidating, can't it?
It's almost as if the moment you open your sketchbook, your brain starts telling you that whatever you create has to be good.
Whenever I feel like that, I do the exact opposite.
I make a mess.
I'll put down some random colours, make a few splashes, scribble some marks, glue something into my sketchbook... anything to take away that pressure of the perfect first mark.
Once the page isn't white anymore, it suddenly feels much easier to keep going.
Although I teach people how to draw and paint, what I really love teaching is how to let go of perfectionism.
How to experiment without worrying whether it's 'right'.
How to play with different art materials and discover what you enjoy.
Because that's where the magic happens. Not when you're trying to make the perfect piece, but when you're curious enough to see what happens next.
So if you've been staring at a blank page today, don't wait for inspiration.
Just make the first messy mark. 💛
