THIS DIWALI, I DON’T DO FAKE FAM. 🪔

Same faces. Different tables. New outfits. Same photographer.

Diwali is the festival of lights, although lately there seem to be more camera flashes than diyas.

Everyone’s celebrating community. Everyone’s dressed for community. Everyone’s posting about community. It’s funny how little community happens when nobody’s paying for it.

And of course, the obligatory “telling little me this is what it’s all about” reel. Little you must be exhausted.

I love seeing my friends and contemporaries come together. I love our culture, our chaos, our generosity and the beautiful absurdity of it all.

But our culture is not a content calendar. And sitting at the same table doesn’t make you a community.

I’d rather light one diya with people I love than sit beneath a hundred ring lights with people I don’t know.
