In my commission to record military involvement with the pandemic, I also painted the daily 6pm meeting on PPE procurement from June to early July. The atmosphere was very concentrated, with NHS, Army and Navy presence. I painted from a corner of the room, first working on a colour study and then proceeding with a larger black and white piece.

I am working on a project every Friday at the National Gallery, painting a black and white transcription of Rubens “Het Steen”. It is a very interesting project translating a large polychrome picture into black and white.
On the first morning a girl on a primary school trip came up to me, gazed at my painting and asked (looking round the whole room) “Did you paint ALL of these?"

The painting shown in an early state from the roof of Kings was completed last night.
