Dear Lovers of Art and of the Community
August is already around 60 hours old but Mme Art Catcher simply does not move that fast in this heat, I don't know about you! But here we now are and finally welcome August.
This month of our Art Catcher postcard calendar 2026 was created by wonderful local co-artist Gerry Cassidy, read below who inspires him in life (the theme of the calendar), and why!
DAVID WALLIAMS
Hi there, I am Gerry and during the last year I have had fun helping with craft events in Dagenham and a community bottle-top mosaic for the YMCA Romford, both organised by Art Catcher Ltd.
I live in Romford and have a great love of printmaking, pottery, and just recently small glass object-making.
My picture on the reverse shows David Walliams, a children’s author and TV personality. A few years back, Walliams undertook a 140-mile swim from Gloucestershire to London in stages for charity. He raised more than £1m for the Big Splash Challenge for Sport Relief.
During the heavily publicised swim, David Walliams went down with diarrhoea but still carried on despite the problem because he is a real trooper!

Hallo allerseits, ich heiĂźe Gerry, und im Laufe des letzten Jahres hatte ich SpaĂź dabei, bei einer Reihe kreativer Workshops in Dagenham und bei einem gemeinschaft-lichen Flaschendeckel-Mosaik fĂĽr den YMCA Romford mitzuwirken, jeweils von Art Catcher Ltd organisiert.
I wohne in Romford und ich genieße es sehr, mich mit Druckgrafik, Töpferei, und in letzter Zeit auch der Herstellung von Glasobjekten zu befassen.
Mein Bild auf der Vorderseite zeigt Kinderbuchautoren und Fernseh-Persönlichkeit David Walliams. Vor ein paar Jahren unternahm David Walliams es, in Etappen eine Strecke von 140 Meilen von Gloucester nach London zu schwimmen. Er gewann dadurch eine Million Pfund für den Big Splash Challenge für die wohltätige Organisation Sport Relief.
Während der sehr öffentlich verfolgbaren Schwimmaktion bekam David Walliams Durchfall, aber er schwamm trotz des Problems einfach weiter, ein wahrer Held!
