Music Box Theatre is a young theatre company dedicated to creating and developing new musical theatre. We believe that music plays an integral role in our lives - particularly in storytelling. Whilst the tried and tested method of 'book writer, lyricist and composer' does work, we want to try something different:
Our vision is to create musical theatre as a collaborative ensemble; ideas are heard, actors are encouraged to bring something to the table and we work with a number of different associate artists to create
interesting, powerful and entertaining pieces of theatre with music. The company is made up of these associate artists who specialise in many different areas (see our associate artists page for details) but we're always keen to collaborate with new people (so do get in touch if you're keen too...right here)
We are passionate about musical theatre and believe that it goes further than just what is on the West End. We support new writing, smaller scale shows and people who, like us, are ready to push the boundaries of the art form. We want to dispel the myth that musical theatre doesn't tackle difficult topics, is all about jazz hands and aimed at a limited and specific audience. What we create, we want to be as accessible as possible and are keen to work with people from all walks of life. We are passionate about bringing musical theatre to the masses and particularly to audiences who might not often be associated with the usual musical theatre audience. We have done workshops with both school children and university students and also work on commissions. We are currently working on a piece for a financial company wanting to give their CEO an extra special send-off.
