I wish someone had told me early on that a bargain only feels like one until the morning of the party.

As the owner of J A Bounce and Play, these are three standards I'll never compromise on.

First, ignoring the 4am wake up call where you panic about whether the caterers remembered that specific floor plan you discussed. If you don't trust them to get the layout right while you're asleep, they shouldn't be in your house.

Second, the refusal to look at a pixelated, low quality photo on a website and hope for the best. If the balloons turn up looking nothing like the picture, that £20 saving suddenly feels like a very expensive mistake when you're stood in an empty hall wondering why the room looks so bare.

Finally, I never compromise on the feeling of being a guest at your own party. Sweating over a half-built gazebo while the first guests ring the doorbell is a price no one should pay. I'd rather you had a smaller guest list and a calm mind than a massive crowd and a ruined jumper from kneeling on the floor to untangle cheap fairy lights.

Save this for when you're planning your child's next party. Future you will thank you.

I treat every event with the same care and attention I would expect for my own family, so I know exactly how heavy that mental load can feel when you are trying to do it all yourself.
