Budding Rose Productions are a brand new theatre company based in London. Our main aim is to create/produce new work, whether it be new writing or supporting creatives towards the start of their journey. This made us smile. Read our writer, Phil Ball’s Interview with his home town newspaper!

A Congleton native with roots in the local theatre community will take a play with a local twist to he bright lights of London later this month.
Phil Ball, who now lives in the capital, wrote Moth Hunting, about a mother and her two daughters who go searching for insects in Macclesfield forest. ‘Carrying only a home made moth trap, corned beef sandwiches and a lifetime of resentment’.

Mr Ball said he got much of the inspiration for his play from his own life and experiences int he local area. ‘The play is heavily influenced by my own life, for example my grandparents met in Sparrow Park in Macclesfield and in the play, a character recalls how their parents met in that park. Also when we were in Centre Parcs, we saw people going Moth Hunting and that’s where I got the idea of how to base the play’.

The play also takes a cue from current political polarisation in the country because of Brexit.

Mr Ball said ‘Thematically the play is kind of political in that everyone these days are poles apart and it’s about encouraging people to talk more. It’s also about family and how we don’t always see eye to eye and we can argue, but things get better’
