LP PREORDER LIVE ON BANDCAMP NOW: a week to go until our debut LP is released! if we could afford to make sustainable eco-wax vinyl records of it, the back might look something like this. if you can afford to spare some money right now you can preorder the full quality digital audio version of our album on Bandcamp and hear those June Logue mixes in all their glory. plus you know we’re all about the planet, and online streaming is a growing contributor to global emissions. listening to your music offline is a good deed.
what’s also nice is that artists get paid (spotify is great for discovery but 0.0075p per stream doesn’t pay for much) and it gives us an opportunity to curate an experience for listeners, presenting some context for the music in a way that reclaims the experience of holding an album in your hands. currently there’s a mad 1000 word kerouac-inspired spontaneous prose piece that you can enjoy alongside the music. if our EP is anything to go by our page will be like some kind of living art for the next week while we delete and rewrite everything over and over, change all the colour schemes and try to remember who did what when. we’ve put a lot of work in to making it part of the whole album experience.
today for juneteenth bandcamp will be donating their fee to the NAACP legal defence fund. as completely independent artists we’re hoping we can recoup some of the costs of making this album but we are making a donation to Black Table Arts in minneapolis, a group which organises black artists to build community power. it would be remiss of us not to mention the obvious influence that black music has had on us. we don’t operate on anywhere near the same plane but particularly inspirational for some of the rhythm parts in album-closer metta was the latest sons of kemet record as well as the late great tony allen. throughout the record you’ll also hear sketches of samba, bossa nova and latin ideas, all of which we’ve tried to play with reverence for the original context of these traditions but in a way that is unique to TMOK.
it’s very strange to be so close to finally releasing this thing after more than two years but we can’t wait!
