‘The Street of Moveable walls and Canvas‘

By Natania De-Marro

(Student work, BSc
Architecture Y1 2021-22)

Local street art is
not recognized as such and is often seen as vandalism. Located in High Holborn, the project aims to celebrate local artwork of all kinds by providing a place for artists to freely create. The facade walls are designed as movable elements which would transform the street into a paradise and gallery for street Graffiti artists, as well as allow the artists to display their work for the
public to view.

‘The Steam Extension of Crown Pub’

By Peiyan Zou

(Student
work, BSc Architecture Y1 2021-22)

Located on the rooftop of a local pub in Covent Garden, the architecture embraces the use of light, water and steam to create a calming atmosphere for the intoxicated pub guests. The project allows for the collection of rainwater
through the transport of rainwater collected by the community and surrounding
buildings to the bathhouse through pipes, and a communal herbal garden will
filter the rainwater collected by neighbouring buildings for the bath while also providing essential ingredients for the
wellness bath.

The project is an emporium for hand-made jewellery,
celebrating the rich history of arts and crafts in Covent Garden. Inspired by British cartoonist Heath Robinson’s contraptions and innovative approach to
building furniture/fabrics, the intervention aims to choreograph the process
of jewellery making into lifestyle. The emporium has 3 functions, in the daytime the building functions as a public jewellery gallery. During the night the building becomes a private domestic residency and
workshop for the artist.

‘A Tearoom for Social Intervention’

By Rosa Crossley-Furse

(Student work, BSc Architecture Y1 2021-22)

The project proposes an alternative approach to the discourse of community engagement and in this case an exploration into how tea can serve as the catalyst in cultivating social cohesion. Local community from different complexes within the courtyard will be encouraged to contribute collectively in
the making of architecture. Teabags from the café will form the wall, emitting scent
and light into the overshadowed courtyard space.

'The Garden of Bioluminescence'
by Sally Sun

(Student work, BSc Architecture Y1 2021-22)

Taking advantage of the derelict building fabric and the inactive nature of the existing area, the project reimagines the abandoned building as a new habitat for fireflies, choreographing
the relationship of nature, biodiversity and urban lighting environment.

'The High Holborn Dinning Club'
by Adam Raymond

(Student work, BSc Architecture Y1 2021-22)

Located within a stone’s throw to one of the busiest crossroads around in High Holborn, the project aims to integrate different dining cultures into its architectural landscape. The 6 existing trees on site are carefully choregraphed into the architectural tectonics, creating spatial qualities accustomed to the specific dinning experience.

'Theatre of City Light'
by Laura Maczik

(Student work, BSc Architecture Y1 2021-22)

The theatre is operated by harvesting and reflecting light from the city and moon. Located on the roof of an abandoned building, the project is a response to the significant light spillage in Covent Garden, translating the undesirable light pollution into the primary source of its screen projection light.
