The John and Mable Ringling Museum's new Center for Asian Art in Sarasota, Florida.

Designed by , the 7500 sq. ft. building is clad in 2800 jade-coloured terracotta panels crafted by — an architectural ceramic manufacturer based in New York.

Terracotta derives from the Italian word ‘baked earth’ and has been used in architecture and design for thousands of years. It has one of the lowest embodied energy compared to other materials and can last hundreds of years with little maintenance, contributing to the movement towards more sustainable architectural practices

You can find out more about the project on our website (link in bio) and in our next exhibition 'Hand Held to Super Scale: Building with Ceramics' opening Friday 20 September.

The Älvsjö Flatbed lightbox by James Corner is part of a proposal for the growth and expansion of Stockholm into the neighbouring suburb of Älvsjö. Rather than presenting a single vision or master plan, the Flatbed proposes a working method. Described as “a design project ahead of its time”, the lightbox was created in 1998 during a consultation with representatives of various interests in the town. Cartographic processes of data representation were used to assemble the flatbed, and common interests were identified in the process.

We have been lucky enough to have the project on loan from for the exhibition. Link in bio.

Studio MUTT’s research has picked out one moment in OS Map history since the first publication in 1801. A monumental event, and a somewhat absurd thought in an age of smartphones and GPS, the Retriangulation of Great Britain in 1935-62 saw the remeasuring of the entire British Isles by hand, as shown in these archival photos.

The Ordnance Pavilion, by seeks to investigate how humans have interacted with the landscape, both physically and culturally, through Ordnance Survey maps. The data of OS maps has been a conduit for our physical human relationship to the landscape; the geographical conditions as well as the man made constructions across it. The pavilion, deconstructed and re-situated at the Building Centre, is a 3D assemblage of references from the larger narrative of OS maps and their creation.

Learn more about the pavilion from at a free lunch tour in the exhibition on 30 July. Link in bio.

James Corner, landscape architect and founder of , created these map drawings for the seminal publication Taking Measures Across the American Landscape. They present the American landscape as a ‘densely measured construction site’, emphasising the historically active relationship between humans and the land. The map drawings encourage landscape architects and planners to ‘recognise the creative role of measure in structuring the immense landscapes that are both functional and expressive of human hope’. Six of the original works are currently on display at the Building Centre as part of our exhibition.
