Hi everyone,

I’ve just published a new blog on my website: Invisible Yet Indispensable

The title comes from a recent experience that meant a great deal to me: being invited to speak at the House of Lords as a key speaker in a roundtable titled Invisible Yet Indispensable: The Mental Health, Wellbeing and Rights of Adult Carers in the South Asian Community in the UK.

In this new blog, I reflect on caring, visibility, storytelling, and what happened after I shared my experience more openly. It’s also about the reality that so many carers hold families and systems together while remaining unseen themselves.

If you’d like to read it, it’s now live on my website. And if it resonates, I’d really appreciate you sharing it.

It is 2am. I am sitting at my desk, having taken a while to get the family member I care for settled for the night. I could have chosen to go to sleep. Instead, I chose to write. By this time of night, my eyes are tired and my vision is beginning to blur, but the need to get my words onto the page f...

2024 all wrapped up! Wishing you all a very happy 2025! Here’s my end of year blog with highlights and learnings of 2024.

Hello, art lovers! As 2024 comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on a year that, while quieter than usual, has been filled with purpose, learning, growth, and planning. It’s also been a year of experimenting with different art forms, pushing creative boundaries, and finding new ways to tell stor...

I am delighted to announced that I have been shortlisted for the second of my Asian Media Awards after winning the ‘Creative Media’ category for 'Asian Women & Cars - The Road to Independence' in 2019.

This time the award nomination is for 'Best Live Event' for my immersive installation Jambo Cinema.

It’s been such a busy year; Jambo Cinema has been part of huge projects in Wolverhampton (with British Art Show 9 as part of Offsite9) and Birmingham (part of the Bham2022 Festival) already and it’s taken so much of my time to produce with the installations growing bigger each time with new experiences added.

Thousands of people have been to see the installation during 2022 and it has been amazing to meet so many people, hear their stories, have people tell me how much the replica of mine and my parent’s home in the 80s has sparked so many memories.

This will be the 10th year for the awards which will be held in Manchester at the end of October! Wish me luck.

It's been a BLAST Birmingham but alas it is nearly time to pack up and move out of the Mailbox Birmingham.

This version of the installation has been so much fun! I have re-created my 1980s living room, my parents VHS Bollywood shop and now... my teenage bedroom! And I can't quite believe how many of you lovely people have come along to support me.

This weekend will be the LAST opportunity to visit in Birmingham. We have to move out next week so here's what you need to do IF you want to come along and check it out.

🎟Head to my website and book a slot here > https://www.dawinderbansal.com/

😬 Too late? No probs, wait your turn outside of the installation and i'll aim to have you inside in about 20mins (depending on how busy it gets)

🛍The venue is the Mailbox in Birmingham

⏱Opening days are Thu-Sun from 12noon

Please note that Sunday the 11th September will be the final opening day.

And once again a HUGE thank you to everyone that has come along so far and enjoyed, shared, laughed, cried and had a selfie with me!

Jambo Cinema was commissioned by Birmingham 2022 as part of the culture programme for the commonwealth games and supported by the Mailbox!
