Steve and I just got back from Lisbon. Warm air, lush gardens, the sea stretching out like an endless invitation…
And now?
Grey skies. Daydreaming. Thinking of somewhere with boats, palm trees, and sunshine.
But let’s talk about Paula Rego.
We visited her museum in Cascais (this one) - and brilliant.
The humour, the boldness, the absolute freedom to paint whatever she wanted.
It made me want to do the same.
Except… everything I was working on felt too serious.
Then, out of nowhere - Crufts 2025! and Clare Balding.
And suddenly, there he was.
A Fox Terrier.
Leaping through the hills like one of those ancient chalk figures carved into the English landscape.
Except this one? He’s alive. He’s moving. He’s clearly up to no good.
I laughed.
And that was reason enough to paint him.
