Gallery / Studio / Graduate residency program We also have a limited number of opportunities for gallery hire within our calendar.

The Muse gallery was established in 2003, in order to support emerging artists by combining creative and commercial elements under one roof. We inherited the building from the creators of 'Green & Blacks' to convert the town house into a mayhem of cultural, creative and commercial activities. We offer exhibition space for contemporary artists, whether established or emerging, accepted purely by merit of work. Throughout the year community arts projects, musicians, film makers and live performers are invited to submit proposals for workshops and events at No. 269, Portobello Road and collaborate with our modest team of artists to present to London.

Street Life by Richard Braine focuses on 26 photographs taken between 1964 and 1976 in and around Ladbroke Grove.

At the age of 17, Braine made the pivotal move to London, a city that would become a lifelong source of inspiration. Living in West London through the 1960s and beyond, the rapidly evolving cultural landscape of the time became the subject of some of his greatest pictures.
He captured transformative moments of the era, including the early Notting Hill Carnival, which burst on to the scene as a vibrant counterpoint to the prevailing austerity of that time.
His photographs of successive youth movements like the Mods and Rockers, and later the Punks, serve as powerful records of creative expression and rebellion against the political and social tensions of the period.

We’re opening ‘Street Life’ by Richard Braine tonight at The Muse Gallery, and we’d love to welcome you.

The exhibition focuses on 26 photographs taken between 1964 and 1976 in and around Ladbroke Grove. Highlights include a boy on a wall watching the Westway being built in Tavistock Crescent in 1964, Rachmanism graffiti on Ledbury Road in 1969, three boys and a pony under the Westway in 1973, and the Roots Food & Drink stall at the carnival in 1976.
Richard Braine (1941–2016) was a photographer whose life and work were deeply intertwined with the extraordinary cultural shifts of his time. Living in West London through the 1960s and beyond, the rapidly evolving cultural landscape of the time became the subject of some of his greatest pictures.

Today is the final day of The Revolution Will Be Ceramicised: A Return to the Radical. Thank you to everyone who has visited the exhibition, supported the artists and shared in this celebration of ceramics, sculpture, craft and collaboration.

Today we present Nick Reynolds, one of the artists of The Revolution Will Be Ceramicised.
Nick Reynolds is a musician with the band Alabama 3 who penned the famous Soprano’s theme, an artist known for his eerie death masks and son of Bruce Reynolds, the mastermind of the 1963 Great Train Robbery.

Thank you for being part of the show. The artworks will remain available for sale for a little while longer, so please contact the gallery if you are interested in purchasing a work or would like more information. ❤️
