I hope everyone is having a great International Women's Day. I am immensely proud of Creative Curve Theatre Company and productions we have a managed to put on with very little money but with a lot of talent and determination. As a result, I hope our audiences are a little more informed about the lives of Helen MacDougal, Nell Gwynn and the women who survived the Blitz.

NELL ! REVIEW

“Nell !” by L.A. Green was staged in a fabulous venue. It was a fascinating story, very funny and beautifully performed by Zoe Teverson. It was great to learn about a woman born disadvantaged, but very street smart who managed to negotiate and climb to the top, and did not fall when her lover, Charles II, died. Zoe Teverson was in Nell’s shoes before she put them on. She managed in the small space not to look hemmed as she negotiated it whilst dressing and creating in the audiences’ minds eye all the scenes and beautiful rooms described. Nell, saucily connected with the audience who were almost on stage with her. The performance felt real and had a wonderful intimacy. As part of the audience I was entranced and I think rest of the audience was too. The experience felt special and immersive. Nell by beautifully lit by lighting designer, Jon Lewis, which may have been tricky in an intimate space.
Bravo, Lorraine, another brilliant show from Creative Curve Theatre Company. I look forward to your next venture.

Nell Gwyn, born Eleanor on February 2, 1650, in London, rose from a humble background to become one of the most celebrated actresses of the Restoration period. The daughter of a deceased soldier and a mother who ran a brothel, Gwyn's early life was marked by poverty and hardship. She gained notoriety as an orange-seller at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where her charm and talent caught the eye of leading actor Charles Hart, who helped launch her acting career. By the age of fifteen, she made her stage debut and quickly became renowned for her comedic roles, earning the affectionate nickname "pretty, witty Nell" from the diarist Samuel Pepys.
