I did a gig recently and I didn’t smash it
You always hear of DJs and performers say they smashed it, but sometimes we just don’t. And it feels horrible. I feel we should share these moments too, as we never hear the negatives!
Us DJs are in a lucky position to do what we love every day, and try our best every time but with that comes the ups and downs, not all gigs are amazing! Tiga once posted about this and really hit a spot with me.
I am a DJ that really uses a crowd’s energy to move things forward during sets. I hate playing to myself - live streams etc. I am not content unless myself and the crowd are moving together as one, on the same page. On occasions this connection doesn’t happen I am left feeling deflated. Does this happen to anyone else?
I take my job very seriously and take this to heart. This could be from just dropping the right track at the right time, or building to a track which you feel would nail it, but it bombs. 9 times out of 10 if this happens people always still say it was still a great gig, but as perfectionists we look to have this successful feeling every time, which simply isn’t possible!
What I am saying is that it’s ok not to smash it every time, there are ups and downs in everything. We need to embrace the non perfect moments and talk about those too as not everything is instagram perfect.
As you were…
