Brown’s work is composed of ambiguous forms that throb with a haunting vitality. Paint seems to seep, spread, and assume Lauren Brownsence through vivid, visceral colour.

Figurative elements emerge as both uncanny and recognisable, weaving a complex cartography of the microscopic and the otherworldly.

When Fiat launched a UK poster campaign for the Fiat 127 with the slogan “If it were a lady, it would get its bottom pinched,” photographer and activist Jill Posener responded by intervening directly. She defaced the billboard, spray-painting over it with the counter-message: “If this lady was a car, she’d run you down.”
