R.I.P Eamon Downes aka Liquid. Sad sad news for the rave scene
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this moment. 💔🙏🏻

Following a five-year long battle with a brain tumour, Eamon Downes, one half of Liquid, has passed away.

Fellow DJ and producer Billy Daniel Bunter shared the news earlier today, writing: “It’s with heartbreaking sadness that I’m letting the world know we’ve lost Eamon Downes, devoted husband to Stella, proud dad to Bea, and one of my closest friends ever. This one really hurts.”

Alongside Shane Heneghan (AKA DJ Model), Downes (AKA Ame) formed Liquid in the early '90s, a duo who would help to amplify the early sounds of rave and breakbeat in the UK. They found success with their debut self-titled record on in 1991, of which the track ‘Sweet Harmony’ stands as an all-timer anthem.

After their first few releases, Downes and Heneghan parted ways as a duo, but Downes continued to share music under the alias for more than 30 years as a solo act.

“I still remember him playing me ‘Sweet Harmony’ down the phone before it got cut. When XL signed it, he was buzzing,” Bunter wrote in tribute. “Sending dubplates by bike to Pete Tong and then straight to me at Labrynth, he loved that side of things.”

Please please please on the 2nd of May when the London elections are on please do not vote for Sadik Khan the geezer is a modern day. Hi**er reckons he working class. He’s a fu***ng scumbag the fella from my 22/23 accounts on travelling and Parking has taken £2600 off of me that’s not even my 23 / 24 accounts. God knows what he taken off of me but I tell you what that £2600 could’ve got me to a ticket and my wife to Australia. Return to see my family that’s what is keeping me in this country for unfair taxes do not vote for this fu***ng Hi**er .

After our first ever festival he went out of his way to call & express how amazing he thought it was. To bring so many people together enjoying UK Garage of all ages, his voice was filled with genuine love & appreciation.

A personal letter from The Laviniere & Groove Odyssey family ❤🙏

On Sunday 3rd October we will be holding a fundraiser event for our Steve, from Bobby & Steve, at Ministry of Sound from 2pm-1am.

After battling Covid for a couple of weeks, our Steve walked into his local hospital on the 29th March 2020. As his symptoms worsened he was put on a ventilator and into an induced coma. In that time they had to perform CPR and his wife Julie received calls saying things weren’t looking good, as one by one all of his organs started to fail.

After 25 days he was taken out of the induced coma but was non-responsive. An MRI scan showed the virus had gotten into Steve’s nervous system and inflamed cells, causing a very rare brain injury called Acute haemorrhagic leukoencephalitis (AHLE- aka- Hurst disease). This diagnosis has left Steve in a state of Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness, meaning he is unable to communicate or move his body and is being fed by a tube. There’s no medicine to repair this condition, however Steve is in a great neurological facility receiving the best care, and we are confident that his condition will improve.

When the time is right we know Steve will benefit from being at home, surrounded by the love of his wife and family, the greatest medicine of all. This will mean major home adaptations, so on Sunday 3rd October, some of our music industry family from different genres, will be coming together to raise funds to assist with Steve’s future rehabilitation.
