A Highfield Morning to Remember
The sun was just beginning to peek over the rooftops of Highfields, casting a golden glow over the bustling "Fiyo" streets. Inside the Moyo family home, the day had already begun with the familiar, comforting clatter of a heavy metal kettle.
Mbuya Moyo, the matriarch of the house, stood tall with a gentle smile, her hands steady as she poured steaming Tanganda Tea into the waiting mugs. For her, this ritual was a blessing—a moment to see her family gathered before the day scattered them.
Never sat at the head of the table, his laughter booming as he expertly spread a thick layer of Stock margarine onto a slice of fresh Lobels bread. Beside him, Maidei watched her husband with a quiet, contented smile. The stress of the week seemed to melt away in the steam of the tea and the sweetness of the Sun Jam.
The children were the life of the table. Tinashe, the eldest, was trying his best to look mature, though his eyes lit up every time the jar of Sun Jam came his way. Ruva, with her bright eyes and quick wit, was already narrating a story from school, while little baby Tendai sat on his mother's lap, reaching out a chubby hand for a "soldier" of buttered bread.
In this small corner of Highfields, surrounded by the scent of brewing tea and the warmth of Mbuya’s kitchen, the Moyo family wasn't just having breakfast. They were weaving the fabric of memories that would last a lifetime. In the 90s, life wasn't always easy, but at this table, under Mbuya’s watchful eye, they had everything they needed.
