Yesterday over 100 creatives took to Stormont to deliver a letter of no confidence in Communities Minister Gordon Lyons MLA due to his continued failure to provide the leadership, strategic direction and sustainable investment required to protect and develop Northern Ireland’s arts and cultural sector.

It’s time for effective political leadership which delivers a long-promised Arts-Policy. It’s time to save the arts in Northern Ireland!

Never give up! A year after Manchester Pride collapsed leaving creatives unpaid, Equity's campaigning has paid off. Manchester City Council is providing £15k from the 'social action pot', made up of contributions from businesses. It's about 20% of the £70k unpaid fees for 50+ performers. Equity will be distributing a percentage of unpaid fees to artists.

Pride but make it unionised ✊

Last weekend's Manchester Village Pride was one of the first ever Pride events to use a union agreement. It guarantees pay, safety standards and protections against bullying and harassment for drag and burlesque performers. Equity has access to workers during the event, providing support and guidance and ensuring that standards are upheld.

Join us on 8 September for a day of action at Stormont to save the arts in Northern Ireland. Sign up to meet with your MLA to end the budget crisis and demand an Arts Policy.

Why is this important?

Stormont is dragging its feet over a budget crisis, putting jobs and communities at risk.
• Northern Ireland receives the least arts funding per head in the UK – just £5.07
• The Minister for Communities has promised and failed to deliver an arts policy on multiple occasions.
