Body in Progress — now available as a Book!

The play we staged last year at Voila Theatre Festival is now available as a paperback and e-book with Скарына.

It can be read as a play and an essay - or a story. Not only my personal story of police violence, incarceration, exile, PTSD and healing - but the universal experience of those who have resisted oppression, endured imprisonment, and sought healing in new and unfamiliar places.

It's raw, honest and poetic - although there is nothing poetic about violence, as my character would say.

Now that our show has premiered, we have a bit of space to look back at the journey and process the experience of creating Body in Progress as well as sharing it as part of the Voila Theatre Festival

We are grateful to the festival for creating space where our work was welcomed and valued. We are grateful to the team of Theatre Deli London for opening its doors for us and supporting us in every possible way. It was the best space to present Body in Progress to the world.

We are blessed to have an incredible team, thanks to which Body in Progress has come together as such a moving, intimate and engaging piece of theatre.

Director: #9, whose professional, sensitive and caring guidance and whose ideas regarding choreography, light and sound have led us to find the best tools to tell this story.

Sound designer and composer: Lex Kosanke, whose fascinating music and sound connected the words and movement, captivating the audience and creating the space for the story to be shared in an engaging way.

Cast: Hanna Komar , Sophie Vallee Sophie Valiullina, who brought in their personalities, experiences, bodies and minds, synching them to tell the truth, no matter how painful, but necessary to be heard.

Lighting Designers: #9 and Sukru Hakan Hafizoglu, who dedicated their time and energy to create this unforgettable experience through theatre lights.

Photographers and videographers who helped us create promotional materials and who captured our performance so we can share it with more people.

Thank you, you are the best!

And of course, the experience wouldn't have been as special as it was but for our incredible audience. Your open hearts, your willingness to go through this with us, your trust and compassion - they made Body in Progress as moving as it was. And it's giving us energy to find more opportunities to share this story with people who need to hear it, even if they don't know it yet...

The performance involves movement as a way to work with the bodily experience of trauma which transcends verbal expression.

Movement is a big part of the experience in Body in Progress. We use it to foster trust and connection within the team, and it serves as an essential tool to express bodily experiences which often transcend verbal expression.

The author of Body in Progress, Hanna Komar, is telling about the story behind this play. Spoiler: it's autobiographical and connected with the police violence she lived through in her native Belarus as well as her exile in London.

Body in Progress is a story of a rebellious woman who fought for freedom of her country and now is going through PTSD and exile. In London's streets, she seeks to reconnect her psyche and body, dissociated by the violence she experienced at her native Belarus. A lot of women across the globe can relate to this experience, and we want them to be heard.

This inspiring performance combining physical and verbal theatre, led by migrant women, explores the themes of violence and recovery, sparking vital conversations on women’s contribution to social change.

The Teaser for Body in Progress is up!

Body in Progress is a two-women show created in response to the Belarus protests of 2020.

It follows a young woman's embodied journey through PTSD and exile. In London's streets, she seeks to reconnect her psyche and body, dissociated by the violence she experienced in her native Belarus.

This genre-breaking piece combines movement, words and sound to explore trauma and recovery, tackling issues of violence at both state and personal levels, and shedding light on the power of women’s voices in the fight for justice.
