At Ruup & Form, we believe that meaningful ideas grow through meaningful connections. Before It Became Work was created to offer artists something increasingly rare: time and space to think together.
A space where artists can speak openly about the questions, experiments, materials and moments of uncertainty that exist before a work finds its final form. A space where process is valued as deeply as outcome.
On 17 June 2026, that intention came beautifully to life. The gallery was filled with generosity, curiosity and thoughtful conversation. Ideas were shared freely, experiences exchanged honestly, and every contribution was met with genuine care. It was a reminder that some of the most important moments in an artist's practice happen long before the work reaches the wall.
This is what Before It Became Work, Ruup & Form's inaugural Gallery Artist Convene, is about.
Cultivating a community where artists support one another, challenge one another and grow together. Creating opportunities for conversations that might not otherwise happen. Believing that when knowledge, experience and generosity are shared, everyone leaves enriched.
I came away deeply inspired and already looking forward to the next gathering.
My heartfelt thanks to Jed Green, Vic Wright, Bridget Harvey, Kerry Lemon, Woo Jin Joo and Henrietta MacPhee for your extraordinary generosity of time, knowledge and heart. Thank you for bringing such openness to the day and for making this first convene everything I had hoped it would be.
