(Translation of Japanese text below)
The series in the exhibition, The Shadows of the Flowers, began with the news of Sugawara's mother's passing.

This was in 2021, when travel restrictions due to Covid prevented her from returning to Japan immediately.

However, friends and colleagues sent flowers in sympathy.

She was not able to return immediately, but eventually made it back for her mother's 49thday memorial.

Unable to discard them, she kept the flowers in the freezer for two years.

Two years later, she pressed them directly onto film, preserving their last traces.

The prints in the exhibition were made from flowers sent by close friends, pressed directly onto photographic film and developed using plant-based developers.
