Gracing our ears pre rugby from 6:45-7:45

ROBBIE PERROT

Not much is known about Robbie Perrott.

In 2013, tracks started appearing on a Soundcloud profile by the same name. The songs first circulated amongst Durban boets: “Keegan have you checked this oke? Doos lekker.”

In 2015, Blake from Umhlanga moved to UCT and in O-Week successfully bedded India, a Fishoek flowerchild who found Blake’s unapologetically masculine dance moves (e.g. the Swak Hand) endearing. “Death to Cool” came on shuffle mid-liaison. Rapture ensued. Soon every cute alternative Cape Town girl was listening.

For a few months in 2018, this internet persona seemed to briefly take human form. Robbie was sighted playing in gardens, bars, and festivals around Cape Town. At Smalltown Beat he performed a cover of Suede by Anderson Paak dressed in a hot dog suit. Then he disappeared.

In 2019 about 200 Korean people started listening to his Soundcloud and actively commenting on the tracks. This author does not know Korean, so cannot speak to the meaning of these comments.

In May 2020, Robbie released Hypersleep, his first full length album. Then he disappeared.

Several eyewitnesses reported seeing Robbie playing guitar and singing with London drummer, at a house party in Roehampton earlier this month. The tunes were described as “slinky and tight”, “moving and grooving”, “spritzy”, “magik”, “effective”.

The only other facts we could gather about him is that he uses cherry flavoured Zambuk, and likes to write about himself in the third person.

Robbie and Waz have promised to perform at Bok Day. We do not know what to expect.

A fixture on the Cape Town and South African circuit since the turn of the century and one of South Africa’s hardest working DJs, it’s at clubs and festival across the country where Marshall can be found playing his signature sound of melodious, left-of-centre house and techno music, with a fair margin for mash-ups on the side. A 20+ year DJ career insures he specialises in classic genres of dance music like house, garage and jungle. He has been a regular fixture in DJ booths across the US and Europe since 2016. He now resides in London.

As co-founder and programmer of Wolfkop Weekender, South Africa’s premier boutique electronic music festival, Richard has booked and programmed in excess of 500 DJ’s over the last ten years. He is a resident music programmer for the Secret Garden Party in the UK and has a monthly show on Ibiza’s OpenLab radio where only electronic music from the African continent is on offer.

Among the endless list of international DJ’s Marshall has booked and played alongside are Mano Le Tough, Bonobo, Nick Warren, Roman Flügel, Pional, Rampue, Seth Troxler, Henrik Schwarz, Âme, Dixon, Max Cooper, Richard Dormeister, Bruno Pronsato, Carl Craig, Tim Sweeny, Lemon Jelly, Metro Area and Tale of Us, all of this a small fraction of the acts he has supported and booked over the last 20 years.

One of the founders of Tenfold Agency, Bronson has been playing and promoting around South Africa since 2013. Not confined by genre, Bronson's sets are rooted in 4x4 and are equally suited to club raves and festival mainstages. To date Bronson has performed at most of the country's biggest festivals alongside some of the world's top performing artists.

We can’t wait to have them ease us into the evening from 10 onwards. Their sets will certainly not be one’s to miss.
