📣 Rare Scottish Wildcats born at the zoo! 🐱
Battersea Park Children’s Zoo is delighted to share the birth of three critically endangered Scottish wildcat kittens on 4th May 2026 🥳
These kittens were born as part of the European endangered species breeding programme and are one of the only litters born outside of Scotland over the last 12 months. We are proud to work in collaboration with Saving Wildcats who are successfully reintroducing Scottish wildcats back to their native habitat. In fact, in 2019, a Scottish wildcat born at BPCZ was selected to join the reintroduction project 🌲
What makes these births even more special is that mum, Skye, was the last cat to be born here in 2019. Six years later, her special kittens will now play their own part in securing the future of this species 💚
As one of the rarest felines in the world, and the last native wildcat in the UK, our kittens play an essential role in saving their species from extinction 💪🏼
At just five weeks old our kittens are beginning to venture outside their den. At roughly 9-12 weeks old, our vet will give them their first health check, vaccinations and microchip, so we look forward to updating you soon 🩺💚
