Wiseman Cases

Wiseman Cases Howard Wiseman’s journey to school consisted of walking two miles and catching a train in the rush hour every morning. Problem solved!
(1)

This was fine apart from the three days on which he had to carry his bassoon! At this point the journey would become a nightmare. As a young teenager the weight of carrying the bassoon and the painful handle constantly digging into his hands seemed an unfair punishment for playing such a lovely instrument. Furthermore, the large traditional bassoon case was never welcomed by other passengers on a

packed, busy train. As a solution to the problem Howard made himself a case! The small tubular case was less than half the volume of any regular case and could be easily slung over the shoulder or worn as a backpack. Shortly after, Howard’s bassoon teacher commissioned Howard to make the same case for him. Being Principal bassoon in the English Chamber orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Robin O’Neill was Howard’s perfect first customer! Before long the “Wiseman” tubular bassoon case had spread throughout the professional circuit in London. By the time Howard was 17 cases had been bought by Principal bassoonists in the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Paris Opera and a large number of major European orchestras. It all happened because of the bassoon! The very compact design, stylish appearance and superb protection for the instruments was soon noticed by other instrumentalists. Demand from all other instruments in the woodwind section quickly escalated. As is often the case, someone’s practical solution to a problem, quickly turned into a business.

The ITG at the Eastman School of Music was just fantastic. It was lovely to meet so many musicians who wanted to invest in protecting their instruments and to take away the discomfort and worry from travelling.
On the journey back to London, my own trumpets were stowed under the aircraft in the Wiseman Quintuplet travel case, whilst three others stayed with me as hand luggage. This small triple/quad case fitted under the seat on the first flight which was an exceptionally small aircraft. I’d have happily checked it in if necessary; but great that it was a perfect fit under my seat!
We are happy to honour the ITG special deal of 15% off and free personalisation, for anyone wishing to order any Wiseman trumpet case by the end of the coming weekend 7th June 2026!
Simply write to us at: [email protected] to secure your interest in the offer or to place an order.
Best wishes to you all.

As day 2 starts it’s a good time to reflect on day 1. It’s been Wonderful to see so many trumpeters at our booth all day yesterday. Our first customer even had a matching shirt for our new patterned-case featuring a beautiful William Morris Victorian design!! …. He went with the Carbon fibre triple/quad case in the end!
Great to see Don Cornelius at the Eclipse booth sporting his quintuplet case… fresh from protecting all his instruments from the under-the-plane journey on the flight from Washington.
Do you come and visit us if you’re at the ITG… and take advantage of our special Trumpet Case offer whether you are here or not.

The “Tour” wouldn’t be complete without bumping into some Wiseman Cases at the airport! How amazing to end up in the security queue at Frankfurt airport with two Wiseman Case owners… Todd (gentleman flat bassoon) and Bryony ( shaped xs viola case with three bows)! Todd has spotted another Wiseman bassoon case on someone’s back a few minutes earlier… but couldn’t catch up with the speedy bassoonist!
