Mr Morale & The Big Steppers
Kendrick Lamar

Look, right now I'm on my second listen and I think it's better than the first!

It's marinading in my soul.

Kendrick is back and on his genius prime s**t (in my humble opinion)...can't even discuss right now. Just processing.

Have you or are you listening?!

Never forgotten 🧡

This post feels so relevant today, on so many levels..reflecting on some poignant conversations I've had and listened to in the past 24hours.

Acknowledging and honouring the heavy load we carry through our work, and our existence in this society.

Together we can ease that burden.

We all have the power to make a difference.

Excerpt from "Home" by Warshan Shire

"no one leaves home unless
home is the mouth of a shark
you only run for the border
when you see the whole city running as well

your neighbours running faster than you
breath bloody in their throats
the boy you went to school with
who kissed you dizzy behind the old tin factory
is holding a gun bigger than his body
you only leave home
when home won’t let you stay.

no one leaves home unless home chases you
fire under feet
hot blood in your belly
it’s not something you ever thought of doing
until the blade burnt threats into
your neck
and even then you carried the anthem under
your breath
only tearing up your passport in an airport toilets
sobbing as each mouthful of paper
made it clear that you would not be going back.

you have to understand,
that no one would put their children in a boat
unless the sea is safer than the land.."

Art: 'Invisible Man' by
Rawles' painting takes inspiration from Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man' book and notes that " Even today, it's very difficult to have that basic element of humanity given to us, of being seen, respected and acknowledged, of being fully human, with brilliance and flaws".

I felt drawn to this image and the words of Shire and Rawles this morning after reflecting on the 30+ humans who drowned trying to get to this land. Trying to find home. Fighting for people to see their humanity. Whilst those in power fight over what name to call them, instead of acknowledging it is their inhumanity that caused this devastation.

May their souls be at peace 🤍

To the ancestors who gave their lives so that we may live ours,
To those who have been written out of the history books,
To those souls, young and old, who fought for a better future

In case you've forgotten
of the worthy in each breath.
In case you've lost sight
of how enough you truly are.
May this be your reminder.

And whenever the critic
tries to convince you of
otherwise, whisper infinite,
back into your existence.

You are infinitely enough.
Darling, the limit does not exist.
