The International Center of Photography will highlight the centrality of photography in the life and work of Yves Saint Lauren in a new exhibition in New York City. Saint Laurent’s enthusiastic embrace of photography transformed the way that clothes were seen, how magazine editorials were conceptualised and expanded the creative direction of commercial fashion photography.
Yves Saint Laurent and Photography features work by Andy Warhol, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Horst P. Horst, William Klein, Annie Leibovitz and more.
The above work is taken by Helmut Newton of Loulou de la Falaise, jewellery designer and muse and collaborator of Yves Saint Laurent since the early 1970s. de la Falaise was known for her bohemian chicness and mix and match, high-low personal style, which greatly influenced Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche line.
The photograph by Newton sees de la Falaise dressed in YSL in the Jardin de Luxembourg. The image was published in the third edition Egoïste magazine in in 1978.
