🎭 Fancy Treading the Boards This Autumn? 🎭

HMM Drama is looking for actors to join the cast of our next play, The 39 Steps!

Based on the classic spy thriller, The 39 Steps is a fast-paced, hilarious comedy packed with mystery, mayhem, larger-than-life characters and theatrical ingenuity. From runaway heroes and glamorous spies to policemen, villains, farmers, porters and just about everything in between, it’s a show that offers plenty of opportunities for performers who enjoy comedy, character acting and a good challenge.

Whether you’re an experienced performer or someone who’s appeared in a few productions and is looking for their next role, we’d love to hear from you.

One of the things we’re most proud of at HMM is the warm and welcoming atmosphere we create. We’re a friendly, supportive and inclusive society where lifelong friendships are made, confidence grows and everyone works together to create something special. Many of our members joined knowing nobody and quickly found themselves part of the HMM family.

Read-throughs begin in next week, so now is the perfect time to get involved.

🎭 Fancy Treading the Boards This Autumn? 🎭

What a fantastic evening!

Last night we launched

✨💫One Singular Celebration 💫✨

our 50th Anniversary Concert, and what a brilliant start it was. It was wonderful to hear the MD and Choreographer share their vision for the show, chat about what’s in store, and see so much excitement in the room.

As this is our 💛 golden anniversary 💛 year, this show promises to be a fantastic celebration of 50 years of Havering Music Makers, packed with music, memories and plenty of moments to make you smile. Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or have only recently discovered HMM, we’d love you to join us.

There are moments when you realise just how lucky you are to be part of something special.

Losing our final two performances of Oklahoma! because of a power outage wasn’t the ending any of us had imagined. We were heartbroken, and if we’re honest, we’re still a little heartbroken now.

But what happened afterwards reminded us why theatre is so much more than what happens under the stage lights.

To every audience member who sent us kind messages, every friend and family member who checked in on us, every fellow theatre society who reached out with words of support, and everyone who shared our disappointment with such kindness… thank you.

Your messages made us laugh, made us cry (just a little), and reminded us that while we may have lost two performances, we certainly didn’t lose the incredible community that surrounds HMM.

To everyone who came to see the show on Thursday and Friday, thank you for giving our cast the audiences they deserved. To everyone who never got the chance to see it, thank you for sharing in our disappointment instead of simply moving on.

Theatre is about people. Always has been. And over the past few days you’ve reminded us that we have some of the very best people in our corner.

So, from everyone at Havering Music Makers… thank you. Your kindness has meant more than you’ll ever know.

Now… after taking a moment to dust ourselves off, we’ll do exactly what theatre people have always done.

We’ll raise the curtain on the next adventure. ❤️

Well… that wasn’t quite how we planned to finish Oklahoma!

Having our final two performances cancelled was a pretty rotten way to end what had otherwise been a wonderful run. We were absolutely gutted. But after a few days of licking our wounds (and muttering darkly about electricity), it’s time to do what theatre people have always done best…

Crack on.

And honestly? We couldn’t have a more exciting year ahead if we tried.

🎉 October sees One Singular Celebration, our 50th Anniversary Concert. A celebration of five decades of HMM, packed with songs from across our history, familiar faces and, no doubt, the odd happy tear.

🕵️ Then in November HMM Drama takes to the stage with the hilarious, fast-paced The 39 Steps.

💃 In February, we’re saying “well hello” to Hello, Dolly!

🌄 And next July, we’re back with the timeless The Sound of Music.

Whether you’ve always fancied being in the spotlight or you’d much rather be the reason everything works backstage, there’s a place for you here. We need singers, actors, dancers, backstage crew, wardrobe, props, set builders, front of house, technicians, organisers… in short, people who enjoy being part of something special.

If musical theatre is calling your name, we’re holding new member auditions on Tuesday 28th July from 8.15 pm. Just drop us an inbox message and we’ll send you all the details.

More tempted by drama? The first read-through for The 39 Steps is on Tuesday 11th August, followed by two more read-through evenings before casting. It’s a brilliant chance to meet everyone, have a laugh and discover you might be capable of far more characters (and far sillier accents) than you ever imagined.

So, if you’ve spent years saying, “I’d love to do something like that one day…”

Consider this your nudge.

Your “one day” could be this year.

Show cancelled

Unfortunately - following the power outages in Hornchurch today, we have had to cancel this evening’s performance of Oklahoma!

The decision has not been taken lightly and we have tried to exhaust alternatives but, at short notice, this has been difficult.

The Queens Theatre will be in contact with all ticket holders next week and tickets will be refunded but if you, or your friends/family were coming this evening, you may wish to let them know in case they don’t hear from the Queens before they leave the house.

🌽🤠 WHAT. A. NIGHT. 🤠🌽

Well… Opening Night, you were pretty special.

To everyone who came along last night, laughed, applauded, cheered and gave our cast such a wonderful welcome… thank you. There really is nothing like that first audience, and you made it one we’ll never forget.

The buzz backstage afterwards said it all. We absolutely loved sharing Oklahoma! with you.

The good news? It’s not over yet! There are still three more chances to catch the show, so if you’ve been meaning to book, this is your sign. Bring your friends, bring the family, and come and spend a couple of hours in a beautifully air- conditioned theatre with us.

We can’t wait to do it all again tonight! 🌽❤️

🌽🤠 IT’S OPENING NIGHT!! 🤠🌽

Well… that’s it.

After months of rehearsals, learning lines, learning dances, sewing, building, plotting, laughing, occasionally questioning our life choices… 😆 …tonight we finally get to share Oklahoma! with an audience.

We honestly couldn’t be prouder of our HMMers. Every single person has worked so hard to bring this beautiful, funny, heartwarming show to life, and the cast can’t wait for everyone to see what they’ve created.

If you’ve already got tickets, we’ll see you there! If you haven’t… what are you waiting for? There are still performances left, but once they’re gone, they’re gone. Don’t be the person scrolling Facebook on Sunday thinking, “I meant to book that…”

Come and spend a couple of hours with us. You’ll laugh, you’ll hum the songs all the way home, and you’ll be supporting a wonderful group of performers who do this simply because they love making theatre.

Right then… places everyone. It’s showtime. 🌽❤️
