COFFEE AND COCKTAILS JOKES

We have a date in December - Saturday 21st.

We will have Christmassy stuff - probably mincepie muffins with brandy buttercream frosting and probably florentines.

If anyone fancies a spot (all spots will by 5 minutes this time) let me know by commenting on this post

Looking for CCJ friends old and new, people who havent done standup at all, people who have given it up but fancy one last hurrah.

Take a break from the Christmas preparations and come and join in the fun.

I NEED YOUR HELP

Been to the Tate Modern and saw The Thamesmead Codex by Bob and Roberta Smith.

It has "inspired" me to think of doing something similar.

I am also considering doing some sort of show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024 (where it will have been 3 years since I did any sort of standup). My aim is to do that and then never do standup up again.

My intention is to make it as much an art/performance piece as much as comedy (pretentious I know).

I think I can combine the 2 ideas.

What I want from you is 50-80 words about the london open mic scene.

It can be:

A memory
A feeling
A specific venue, comedian, gig, promoter or night (no need to be so specific they can be identifed)
Why you stopped
Why you started

Pretty much anything

I will use you words to create "art" I don't yet know what form it will take but that is all part of the fun.

If it turns out I never do Edinburgh I will still produce the "art"

The planned name for the show is

"If a comedian tells a joke and there is no one there to hear it is it funny"

The art will have the umbrella title

"Who? Why?"

Thanks all

EDITED - Coach tickets booked - we will be in Edinburgh for the day on Tuesday 8th August

In a moment of madness Rose and I are considering the joys of the overnight coach for a flying (coaching) visit to Edinburgh for the day. We are old hands at this having sepnt the grand total of 13 hours in Glasgow earlier this year.

We want to see as many shows, friends and shows by friends as possible.

So the question is who has a show between say 10:00am and 7:30pm on Tuesday 8th August and would like some friendly supportive faces in the audience

Remember as always "Share the love"

EDITED - TIME FOR BRIGHTON CORRECTED

Exciting Comedy News

Your favourite CCJers - Jack and Emily are sharing two shows together.

First up - Saturday 3rd July at 16:15 - The Caxton Arms, North Gardens, Brighton, part of the extended Brighton Fringe. This will be a WIP

Then - Saturday 31st July at 15:00 - Baltic House, Faversham, part of the Faversham Fringe-lite. This will be less, probably, WIP

Emily's part is called "Barnacles - A stand-up comedy show about grief, rock music, and marine arthropods."

Jack's is "Kandinsky A Go-Go - the truth(!) about Kandinsky, an attempt to speak German and a man (Jack) in a bad wig"

Both are PWYW (that includes nothing if you are that way inclined). Please come along we'd love to see you at one (or both) of these.

Hi all,

After much careful thought, I’ve decided that CCJ will be taking a break for a few months.

Following the sudden loss of my Mum in February, I’ve had to take a temporary step back from all things comedy. I was hoping that CCJ would be the exception to this, but I’m afraid I’m just not up to it at the moment.

But CCJ will return. And when it does, I will post in here when bookings are open. The CCJ ethos has always been one of warmth and friendliness. And it always will be.

Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Take care of yourselves,

Emily

After nearly 5 years, 55 live shows, 31 Zoom shows, 3 all day "comedy marathons", a whole pile of fringe previews, over 1000 spots and a lot of lovely people making their standup debuts at Coffee and Cocktails I have decided that the time has come for me to step down from running it.

This would have happened 18 months ago but for Emily, so special thanks to her for that.

Emily is going to carry on with the online shows and will announce when bookings are open for upcoming shows. Please don't ask when that might be. Emily will let you know when it is.

CCJ has been a large part of my life for 5 years, it's sad to be giving it up but Emily will look after it and you, so make sure you look after her.

We all need to support each other, lets make sure we do.

Remember - share the love

Thanks

Jack
