Sony Design describes the ‘reflective behaviours’ of the 3M™ Dichroic Glass Finish used in Landmark Project, INTO SIGHT, as having a “shimmering, colour-shifting effect. Combining light and beauty with innovative, the final effect alters depending on the existing surface colour as well as the viewing and lighting angle.”
The behind-the-scenes shots feature the team studying the reflective behaviours of the display in combination with 3M dichroic film alongside checking the crystal displays of the life-sized prototype. The installation is a life-sized media platform, consisting of a tunnel featuring a 220-inch Crystal LED screen, see-through glass walls, and mirrors on the floor and ceiling.

French architect Arthur Mamou-Mani creates swirling, 3D-printed PLA bioplastic beehives for ‘Mellifera’. The installation at Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, promotes circular design and biodiversity for the Festival Commissions lineup at London Design Festival 2021.
In a conversation with STIR, Arthur elaborates on the circular design themes he explored in the installation stating, “PLA itself comes from renewable resources such as sugarcane, or any kind of starch, including corn, cassava, sugar beet, or potatoes, so it’s a natural carbon sink.”

We are absolutely thrilled that London Design Festival is going ahead this year! From 12-20th September, immerse yourself in the brilliance of London's design scene and visit the many installations in participating districts, including Brompton Design District.
Brompton Design District's curator Jane Withers is a long-term advocate of design’s power to shape the world and its future for the better. Trained at the The Courtauld Institute of Art and the Royal College of Art, Jane has been researching and presenting topics like water scarcity, circular design and plastic pollution long before they became mainstream concerns within the industry.

For this year's London Design Festival Brompton Design District will explore the theme Nature/Nurture, investigating how design can respond to the threat of rapidly disappearing habitats. Ahead of the festival we chatted with ecology expert Dr Rob Francis of King’s College London about the huge wealth of wildlife living in our cities, and what designers can do to protect and encourage it.
