A solo exhibition by Danh Vo will open at White Cube New York this September, marking the artist’s return to the city following his acclaimed exhibition ‘Take My Breath Away’ at the Guggenheim New York in 2018.⁠
⁠
Bringing together religious relics, classical fragments and found objects, Danh’s works retain physical evidence of trauma and decay alongside the contours crafted by their original makers. Ranging from Christian iconography to statues of Roman gods, they conjure fever dreams of art and empire. ⁠

Join us for a preview and curatorial walkthrough of the first UK exhibition by Colombian painter Emma Reyes (1919–2003). Led by Stéphanie Cottin, President of the Emma Reyes Foundation, the walkthrough will explore works spanning nearly 60 years of Reyes’s career.

In Focus: Florence Nightingale’s bedroom at White Cube at Claydon ✨⁠

At the far end of Claydon’s upper floor, the former bedroom of Florence Nightingale – a regular visitor between 1857 and 1890 – houses works by Julie Curtiss, Tracey Emin and Mona Hatoum that draw on a surrealist language of the domestic to uncanny effect.⁠
⁠
Handcrafted garments fashioned from human hair by Mona and Julie hang alongside Tracey’s embroidered vision of a nightmare, transfiguring the bedroom into a site of psychic intensity.⁠

Coinciding with Frieze Seoul, join us for a late-night opening of Marina Rheingantz’s exhibition, ‘Míope’, as part of Cheongdam Gallery Night.⁠
⁠
Marina’s first solo exhibition in Korea, ‘Míope’ features works that combine aerial viewpoints with shifting macro- and microscopic perspectives. Visceral and deliberately unresolved, the artist’s forms appear to dissolve and resurface with the movement of the eye.⁠

New limited edition prints by TARWUK are now available to purchase online ✨⁠

TARWUK’s first editioned works with White Cube revisit and multiply the motif of a recent painting depicting a sea-gazing scene from Cavtat, Croatia, framed by two elusive figures alongside the gnarled trunk and overhanging foliage of a tree.⁠
⁠
The lithographs present a single moment from two perspectives: day and night. In the daytime version of the scene, pink predominates, as the radiant late-day sun approaches the horizon, its reflection shimmering across the Adriatic Sea.⁠
⁠
By contrast, in the nighttime version, the green that animates the scene is offset by a doubling of the figures in blue, achieved by the process of printing a second stone atop the first. ⁠
⁠
Calling to mind the duo’s cohabitation of a single artistic identity, the prints are less about oppositions than the coexistence of different perspectives and the instability of a singular objective truth.⁠

On View: ‘Noguchi’s New York’ at the Noguchi Museum

The exhibition traces Isamu Noguchi’s longstanding relationship with New York, exploring how the city’s material, cultural, social and political landscape shaped the artist's practice and way of thinking, and Noguchi, in turn, shaped New York.

Presented at the Noguchi Museum ( ) – founded by the artist in 1985 across the street from his Long Island City studio – the exhibition brings together over 50 works, featuring a selection of sculptures, project models, photographs and archival materials.

In the artist’s own words: ‘Like a lot of New Yorkers, I was one of those bitten by some kind of an idealism … New Yorkers after all felt a special relationship to the world.’

In Shigeo Otake’s exhibition ‘Agoraphilia’ at White Cube Hong Kong, he reimagines the marketplace through some of the most primal forms of human interaction.

As the exhibition title suggests, Shigeo is drawn to the agora as both a site of action and a conceptual framework. Across densely detailed paintings, everyday events take on strange new life, populated by otherworldly creatures and ‘fungal grotesqueries’ informed in part by his studies of parasitic life and the morphology of Cordyceps.

From the expendability of life itself to the insatiable nature of desire, Shigeo’s diverse cast of characters engage in seemingly mundane acts of transaction that unfold as complex metaphors for social life.

In Julie’s Edenic, surrealist-inspired scene, a woman is seen exiting a room, leaving two monkeys and a stork to play. Presented in Claydon’s Chinese Room – conceived in the manner of a traditional Chinese tea house – the work extends the room’s mood into a scene where the familiar appears to have slipped its moorings, making wry allusion to the room’s many displaced curiosities. ⁠
