Great tips from actor poet and poet Alain English, I asked him for some tips regarding one man shows and he was kind enough to oblige

ALAIN'S TIPS FOR PUTTING ON A SOLO SHOW

1) Make sure it's a play or a subject you are interested in. Solo shows are a long, hard slog so it's better that your theme be something you can easily talk about for an hour or so. Be random - sometimes the best ideas come from the most unexpected places.

2) Make sure you set aside the time to be able to research and/or rehearse your show so you are thoroughly prepared for performance.

3) Although solo shows are technically just that (one person on stage) make sure you gather a small, reliable team of collaborators around you to give you feedback and help with other aspects like staging and promoting your show.

4) Be on the lookout for scratch nights or open-mic nights. There are plenty of them in London especially, and are a good place to try out your material in front of audience. Always check with the venue/promoter if you are performing classical material or work previously written or performed by other people.

5) Be on the lookout for funding or other grants to help you finance your show.
