Society Members Support Successful Side Saddle Show at Addington
The Society of Master Saddlers was well represented at the National Side Saddle Show held at Addington last weekend, with a strong contingent of members coming together to support one of the most prestigious fixtures in the side saddle calendar.
Members specialising in side saddle travelled from across the country, with many exhibiting on their own trade stands, assisting fellow exhibitors, demonstrating their expertise and sharing their passion for the craft with competitors and visitors alike. The event provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the specialist skills that continue to underpin this unique area of saddlery.
A particular highlight of the weekend was Prime Warden Mark Romain, who attended his first prizegiving on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers to present the prize in the Junior Side Saddle Championship. Supporting young riders is vital to ensuring the future of side saddle, and it was great to see the next generation recognised.
The weekend also showcased the close knit community within the side saddle world, with Society members working together throughout the event, offering advice, craftsmanship and encouragement to competitors and visitors alike.
As the Society celebrates its 60th anniversary, occasions such as these demonstrate the depth of expertise within our membership and the important role members continue to play in preserving traditional saddlery skills while supporting the future of equestrian sport.
