Yesterday’s finds by the Thames. Love the little deer/horse. Pipemakers took pride in their design by engraving their initials in the stems or heels and Victorian businessmen exploited decorated pipes as an advertising medium with designs featuring their slogans. There were also pipes depiciting the names of pubs, animals, flowers, regimental badges, sports, ships and other motifs.

Chemistry lesson of the day:
Lotide necklaces are now all made of silver. I love silver as a metal but I’ve never been a fan of the colour itself, so I use sulfur to tarnish the metal. When silver is combined with sulfur it creates a protective coating of silver sulfide (Ag2S), which is black but can be brown/red/yellow when the sulfur is applied carefully.
