Today, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Ensemble is in Reading for a special performance at the Concert Hall in Reading Town Hall.

The concert will weave together the sacred grandeur of Bruckner’s motets and the joyous Renaissance polyphony of Gabrieli before revelling in the timeless swing of the Gershwin songbook, including classics like I Got Rhythm, Fascinating Rhythm, and ‘S Wonderful.

This will be our final concert in Reading as part of our 2025–26 season, but we look forward to returning next season for a range of wonderful concerts announced today!

‘These women didn’t just create incredible music, they shaped the culture and opened doors for generations of artists. And then to get to do it with a symphony orchestra…? Incredible!’

We can’t wait to amplify the sounds of some of the most iconic soul and disco artists in Symphonic Groove on Saturday 27 June, a concert which will bring audiences together at the De La Warr Pavilion lawns as part of Bexhill's Big Summer Sounds festival.

We are particularly delighted to be joined by West End star Gloria Onitiri as a featured vocalist. Ahead of her upcoming performance with the RPO, we got the chance to ask Gloria a few questions about the concert.

ALKEBULAN III: The Water Remembers 🌊

For years, I searched for where my story began. As an African American growing up in the United States, I longed to uncover my ancestral heritage. So much of our culture, history, and identity was taken from us, leaving generations disconnected from the places and people that came before. I felt a void, I knew there had to be more to the story…

That journey led me across oceans and generations, all the way back to Imo State, Nigeria, where I reconnected with my Igbo heritage and met relatives whose stories are a part of my own. It transformed the way I see myself, my family, and my place in the world.

This album is a celebration of West Africa, Nigeria, and my Igbo roots. This is for my ancestors, my culture, and the generations of people whose resilience, traditions, and spirit continue to live on today. Through music, film, and immersive storytelling, I want to honor the beauty of Igbo identity and preserve the legacy of those who came before us.

The final chapter of the ALKEBULAN trilogy.

The Water Remembers… and so do we.

'The majestic solemnity of the RPO's sound... melted away my scruples.' The Telegraph

On Friday 5 June we performed the final concert of our 2025–26 London season with Vasily Petrenko at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, performing music that pushes the boundaries of rhythms, colours and emotions with Scriabin's Symphony No.3, 'The Divine Poem', Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead, and our Composer-in-Association Joe Hisaishi's The Border (Concerto for Three Horns and Orchestra), featuring soloists Ben Hulme, Alexander Edmundson and Katy Woolley.

See more photos and read more about the programme in our latest blog: www.rpo.co.uk/stories/photos-hisaishi-scriabin

If you missed the concert then don't worry - you can listen back on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds from 7.30pm on Tuesday 14 July.

You can explore our 2026–2027 season with Vasily Petrenko at Southbank Centre, Cadogan Hall and the Royal Albert Hall now on our website ✨
