Do you recognise this familiar face?

On this day (27th April) in 1944, George Bernard Shaw visited Denham film studios, where filming was about to begin on an adaptation of his play 'Caesar and Cleopatra'. One of the stars was Vivian Leigh, who came to Shaw's Corner and was photographed in the study here with Shaw.

If you're interested in learning more about the famous faces who visited Shaw's Corner, there's an upcoming tour for you. The Shaw's Circle tour is on Fri 15 May (5:30pm - 7pm), and promises to be an interesting dive into the stories of who Shaw chose to invite to the property.

Rother Street Arts House in association with Tread the Boards Theatre Company present PYGMALION by George Bernard Shaw, Directed by Jonas Cemm

A former trustee of the Shaw Society (an 84-year-old organisation dedicated to exploring the works and legacy of George Bernard Shaw) Cemm has a long-standing engagement with Shaw's writing and a deep understanding of its humour, pace, and probing social questions. A 2026 Fringe Theatre Awards nominee for Best Director (Shaw vs Chekhov, his 25th Shavian production), he has previously directed Pygmalion with Partridge in the lead and, for this staging, is using his own edited version of the script..."
